Landfill Frequently Asked Questions
Brush and Yard Waste

The city shall provide curbside collection of yard waste for residential customers located north of U.S. Route 50 on Thursdays and south of U.S. Route 50 on Tuesdays.  (All yard waste must be curbside by 7:30 a.m. the day of collection.)

Yard waste consisting of grass clippings, leaves, and small sticks must be placed in city approved degradable paper bags. Tree limbs bundled in four-foot bundles, not exceeding fifty (50) pounds in weight, will also be collected.   The city will pick up only normal tree and bush trimmings. The property owner will dispose of all other tree parts. Do not put brush and yard waste piles or bags on street surface, ditches, gutters or blocking sidewalks.  (Bags are available for purchase at various business and retail establishments in the city.)

If you have questions regarding these policies, or would like to discuss this further, please contact the City of Salem at 548-2222 or Salem Municipal Landfill #2 at 548-7781.
