The City of Salem, Illinois Recreation Department will be using Facebook
to better inform citizens of program and events taking place within the community.
Although the City of Salem Recreation Department offers a complete website (www.salemil.us), we will now begin notifying citizens via Facebook of recreation events/programs; softball, soccer; cancellations/changes in softball, volleyball, and soccer games; special events/programs at Salem Family Aquatic Center; early closings at Salem Family Aquatic Center due to special events, swim meets, weather, etc.
Although the City of Salem Recreation Department will continue to make announcements via newspaper, radio, and its website, I look forward to even better communication with residents through our Facebook page.
Annette Brushwitz, Director
City of Salem Recreation Department
The City of Salem Recreation Department is a nonprofit organization. Our budget is based on City taxes and revenue generated through recreation program fees. The Salem Recreation Department's policy is to establish program fees to pay for the program's actual expenses. This policy allows the City of Salem Recreation Department of offer quality programs at the lowest possible cost to the participant. Non-resident fees are established slightly higher because no revenue in the form of City taxes is received from those residing outside Salem city limits.
Due to program fees being determined by the projected number of participants in a program, unless otherwise stated, there will be no refunds.
The City of Salem Recreation Department is governed by the Salem City Council. The City Council meets at 6:00 p.m. on the first and third Monday of each month. The Salem Recreation Board is an advisory Board, consisting of five appointed members, meeting at 5:00 p.m. on the Thursday following the fourth Monday of each month. Both the City Council and Recreation Board meetings are held in Council Chambers at Salem City Hall and are open to the public.
