The City of Salem Recreation Department is a nonprofit organization. Our budget is based on City taxes and revenue generated through recreation program fees. The Salem Recreation Department's policy is to establish program fees to pay for the program's actual expenses. This policy allows the City of Salem Recreation Department of offer quality programs at the lowest possible cost to the participant. Non-resident fees are established slightly higher because no revenue in the form of City taxes is received from those residing outside Salem city
limits.
Due to program fees being determined by the projected number of participants in a program, unless otherwise stated, there will be no refunds.
The City of Salem Recreation Department is governed by the Salem City Council. The City Council meets at 6:00 p.m. on the first and third Monday of each month. The Salem Recreation Board is an advisory Board, consisting of five appointed members, meeting at 5:00 p.m. on the Thursday following the fourth Monday of each month. Both the City Council and Recreation Board meetings are held in Council Chambers at Salem City Hall and are open to the public.
All Salem residents and program participants are encouraged to call me or make an appointment to visit with me in my office to discuss new programs or ways to improve programs, services, or facilities.
