Day-by-Day Progress Report
on demolition of the old pool facility
and construction of the new aquatic facility.
Day 201 - Thursday - February 25, 2010
The new, exciting Salem Family Aquatic Center is scheduled to open on Saturday, May 29 at 12:00 noon!
The facility is currently about 70% complete. Following are updated pictures of the facility.
In this first picture, you are seeing the front of the main building, from the south end.
On your left is the concession stand--the boarded up windows will have roll down doors installed,
which will be opened during business hours and concessions will be sold from these windows.
In this picture, you are seeing the interior of the concession stand.
It will soon be filled with a popcorn popper, hot dog cooker, snowcone machine,
ice machine, refrigerator, etc.
Here, you're seeing the interior of one side of the bathhouse.
This is the view you will have as you exit the bathhouse into the pool area.
Use your imagination to see blue water, a water slide, play structure, shade structures,
a pergola, green grass, leaves on the trees, . . .
It will be beautiful!
Day 157 - Wednesday - January 13, 2010
Things are really beginning to take shape at the new Salem Family Aquatic Center!
This shot was taken from the northeast side of the facility.
What you see here is the front of the bathhouse/concession stand.
Before we know it, the snow will be melted off, the grass will be green, and we'll be opening our brand new swimming pool!
Day 131 - Friday - December 18, 2009
Day 103 - Friday - November 20, 2009
Even with all the rain we've experienced in October and November, a tremendous amount of progress has been made in construction of the new Salem Aquatic Facility! The huge concrete slab on the left in the above photo is the parking lot. To the right of the parking lot, in the middle of the picture is the tot pool--you can make out the shape of it. Rock has been placed in the bottom, with pool bottom and sides being poured before Christmas. Continuing on to the right you can see the concession stand/administration offices/bathhouse. Trusses will be set by the first week of December. Behind the building, you can see the zero depth entry pool. A large drawing of the proposed facility will be posted at the southeast corner of the tennis courts within the next couple of weeks.
Thank you Holland Construction and all the workers for staying on the job through difficult weather conditions!
Day 89 - Friday - November 6, 2009
We sure have had our share of wet weather in October and November! But that hasn't affected the progress at the new Salem Aquatic Facility! The above picture was taken late Friday afternoon, November 20. The large slab of concrete to your left is the parking lot. As you can see, the walls are up on all of the buildings. Trusses will be set next week, followed by the roof. It's all beginning to take shape. To the right of the parking lot is the tot pool--right now there is gravel in the bottom. Continuing on to your right is the concession stand, the administrative offices, the entry-way, continuing on to the bathhouse. Behind the main building, you can see the main pool (zero depth entry). The floor has been poured as well as some of the sides. Keep up the
good work, men! We're anxious for next spring to get here, when we can see our brand new facility completed!
NOTE: See the speed limit sign near the bottom center of the photo? When we get a few days of dry weather, a large drawing of the finished facility will be posted in this area.
Day 89 - Friday - November 6, 2009
Although we experienced unusually rainy weather in October, crews have made outstanding progress at the new SALEM FAMILY AQUATIC CENTER. Things are beginning to take shape--if you look closely, you can see the walls of the mechanical building in the upper left hand of the above picture; in the lower left, where the truck is parked, is the tot pool; to the right of the tot pool is the administration building, which will house the concession stand, the manager's office, the admissions area, etc.; continuing counter clockwise (where the green scaffolding is) is the bathhouse. The area where you see all the men in orange shirts is the pool area. All of the sub-contractors are doing a great job getting their work done in a timely manner!!!!
Day 54 - Friday - October 2, 2009
Day 37 - Tuesday - September 15, 2009
Digging of the main pool has almost been completed!
Digging of the tot pool will begin this week.
Sanitary sewer lines, water lines, storm sewers are being installed--nothing
that can be seen, but all very necessary.
By the first week of October, weather permitting,
we should see concrete being poured for the pool floor.
.
Day 30 - Tuesday - September 8, 2009
Pouring of the footings for the buildng has almost been completed.
Many, many loads of dirt have been hauled off.
Part of the main pool has been dug.
Drive by and take a look at the progress!
Picture below was taken from northeast of the new facility.
Day 30 - Tuesday - September 8, 2009
They're beginning to dig the new pool!
The footings have been dug for the buildings.
Things are changing every day!
Day 23 - Tuesday - September 1, 2009
Wow! What a change!
The old pool has almost been completely filled in.
A lot of dirt has been moved around
I've been told that we can expect footings to be poured in the next two weeks.
Day 19 - Friday - August 28, 2009
We've seen a lot of changes at the Salem City Pool this week!
The bathhouse is totally down, as well as the chemical shed and the pump house.
As you can see in the picture below, a lot of "ground" work has been done this week.
I've been told that we can expect footings to be poured in the next two to three weeks.
WORK IS PROGRESSING--QUICKLY!!
Day 11 - Thursday - August 20, 2009
If you want to see any of the old bathhouse still standing,
you'd better drive by the pool tonight. Just one wall--that's all that's left.
A lot of "visible" work has been done today.
One of the big sand filtration tanks has been moved.
Day 9 - Tuesday - August 18, 2009
Today brought about some visible changes.
The east wall (women's side) of the bathhouse was knocked down.
Bricks from this wall were removed and will be cleaned up
to be used in areas of the new facility.
We are anticipating the rest of the bathhouse
will come down tomorrow (Wednesday).
Day 5 - Friday - August 14, 2009
Yet another day filled with the hustle and bustle of demolition.
Today workers were busy with removing more brush and tree trunks;
removing deck, sidewalk, and the final piece of fencing & the gate
to the west of the bathhouse.
Word is that the bathhouse will NOT be removed on Monday; however,
you can expect to see it coming down on Tuesday and/or Wednesday next week.
Day 4 - Thursday - August 13, 2009
Another day filled with lots of activity and heavy equipment moving around.
Today workers were busy with mostly ground work.
The big tree in the staff parking lot came down, barely missing the bathhouse.
Notice that the "steps" in the concession area are also gone.
Day 3 - Wednesday - August 12, 2009
The pine trees just east of the bathhouse have been removed,
as well as several trees and brush at the west end of the pool.
A chain link fence has been put up to secure the construction site.
The fence begins at the southwest corner of the tennis courts, stretches across the road,
through the park and around the west end of the pool, along the north tree line, back across the road,
and continues south to the northwest corner of the tennis courts.
It is anticipated that the bathhouse will be demolished by week's end.
Day 2 - Tuesday - August 11, 2009
Another day filled with lots of activity and heavy equipment moving around.
Today, the storage building south of the pool and the concession stand came down.
As you can see, the demolition crew is doing a great job of hauling off construction debris.
The big chunks of concrete decking are being put in the pool basin and will be used as fill.
Day 1 - Monday - August 10, 2009
The day began with a flurry of activity.
The demolition crew was on the job early and quickly began removing the chain link fencing surrounding the pool.
A lot of work was done to re-route utilities.
At the end of the day, a lot of the concrete deck on the east end had been busted out.
