Jack-O-Lantern Contest

Carve an awesome Jack-O-Lantern or paint a festive pumpkin, and bring it to the southwest corner of the Court House Square in Salem to register for the to register for the 3rd annual Jack-O-Lantern Contest.  Jack-O-Lanterns will be displayed along the sidewalk around the Court House until 7:30 p.m.  After 8:00 p.m., we will dispose of the Jack-O-Lanterns that haven't been picked up.

In case of inclement weather, the contest will be moved to the lobby of Salem City Hall.

If you would like to illuminate your Jack-O-Lantern,
please use battery operated candles, flashlights, or glowsticks.

  • No carving or painting is to be done on the display site.  Anyone wishing to participate must bring an already carved or painted jack-o-lantern.
  • The main part of the entry must be a pumpkin.
  • This is a family event--we reserve the right to remove/disqualify any entries that are deemed to be inappropriate or offensive.
Registration begins at 5:15 p.m.
on the southwest corner of the Court House Square.

Winners will be presented with their prize
when they pick up their
Jack-O-Lantern/painted pumpkin,
between 7:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

1st Place Prize - $25 in Salem Dollars
2nd Place Prize - $15 in Salem Dollars
