Patrol Division

The Salem Police Department Patrol Unit is comprised of four Sergeants and seven patrolmen.  Together, the patrol unit provides quality and professional service to the City of Salem. These sworn law enforcement officers provide 24-hour response to initial crime scene and incident investigation, traffic enforcement and control, community policing, and crime prevention.
Salem Police Officers receive substantial on-going training throughout their careers that meets or exceed ILETSB standards in every facet. This i s conducted by both departmental trainer and through outside training courses. We are proud of our comprehensive training program and believe it's critical in being able to serve the citizens and visitors of Salem to the best of our ability.
The Salem Police Department utilized state-of-the-art equipment to accomplish our mission of high quality and effective law enforcement service. All patrol cars are equipped with multi-use tablets, in-car cameras and communication systems. We also deploy cameras on our firearms and have multiple less-lethal weapon options to utilize if necessary.
Our Patrol Officers are also issued load-bearing outer vests, resulting in better back and hip health, the ability to more easily carry necessary equipment and add increased body armor.
