City of Salem Under System-Wide Boil Order

Boil Order

Due to a pump change at the City of Salem, Illinois water treatment plant, customers of the City of Salem’s water system are under a system wide boil water order and should bring their water to a rolling boil for 5 minutes before using water for drinking or cooking.   This is effective Sat. Oct. Oct. 26, 2019 at 6:30am.  Any water to be used for drinking or cooking should be brought to a rolling boil for 5 minutes prior to consumption. Water is OK for bathing, washing and other common uses.

This boil water order is being issued in accordance with Illinois Environmental Protection Agency regulations.  It is standard procedure for a boil water order to be in effect after changes in piping or pumping units.  Customers are being notified of this boil water order via media outreach, customer calls, social media and City of Salem’s website at www.salemil.us.  Notification will be completed in the same manner when the boil water order is lifted, and updates will be distributed.

Further information can be obtained by contacting Salem City Hall at 618-548-2222.  The duration of the boil water order could extend to 7-10 days depending upon duration of pump repairs.

The City of Salem constantly monitoring the situation and working diligently to minimize the extent of the order while providing quality water to all customers.

We apologize for this inconvenience to all customers, persons, and businesses impacted at this time.
