About the Artist

John Hubbell has a Bachelor of Arts degree in art from Greenville College and did his graduate work at Illinois State.  Instead of doing a gallery show for his thesis, Hubbell painted a  dozen outdoor murals for an outdoor exhibition.  Mr. Hubbell has also studied at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington DC and Colorado College, Colorado Springs, CO.

Mr. Hubbell worked in the outdoor advertising business before it was overtaken by digital printing technologies.  During that time, Mr. Hubbell worked in major markets in Colorado, Alabama, Missouri, and Illinois, where national clients were demanding photo-realistic renditions of their ads. These large scale 750 square foot billboards were painted by hand in oils, using gallons instead of the tubes most are familiar with.

Mr. Hubbell has painted murals in several regions of the country, the most noteworthy being one for the City of San Diego.  Mr. Hubbell has been an art educator in the public school setting, and currently serves as an adjunct professor in Design and Drawing at Greenville College.
