Water TreatmentAbout Our Water

The City of Salem owns and operates its own public water and sewer systems, serving the City of Salem and an expanding customer base in the outlying rural area. The City's raw water supply is provided by a 70-acre surface water reservoir and supplemented by a raw water transmission line connecting Salem Reservoir with Carlyle Lake (dammed Kaskaskia River) which can pump 3.5 MGD of raw water for treatment and distribution in the city's water distribution system. The City recently completed a full loop of its water distribution system in the western industrialized area of the City, including the City's 240 acre Industrial Park, utilizing 14", 16" and 20" water lines to maximize flow and pressure to all areas that represent present and future commercial and industrial development opportunities.
